If there ever was a piece of news that was
received with less interest, I probably wasn't interested enough in noticing it.
The academy has
spoken, children, and as expected - a big, fat frog jumped out of its
throat. Officially, the game of the year is Half Life 2. A great victory
for hype (read why
here)!
The rest of the winners are also pretty ridiculous - I would like to hear what
was so damn innovative in HL2 (and if anyone says physics I will commit ritual
suicide - having it does not excuse the sloppy implementation).
I am, of course, not shocked at all, since all these academy awards (in any
industry) are generally bullshit. They either give the award to someone who is
too old to know the difference and probably should have received the award ages
ago, or to whatever generates the most hype. Seen any Oscar winning movies
lately? They all suck, trust me. I laughed when I read the
mission
statement of the academy - find it here (looks like they have a lot to do in
their life, that's probably why they always get it right :))
I am switching to misanthrope mode.
